Following our recent 'restructuring', and enforcing our committment to learning to sail, the RYCT Dinghy Group has decided to supplement the beginner program with a fleet of brand new boats.

Arriving in August, in time for our annual Sail School, 10 Ozi Opti's will be arriving thanks to the generous sponsorship of 10 local companies.

Another season finished (except for the 420’s who are off to the Victorian states this weekend) and its time for a break. Most of you are having a 3-4 week break, which is very important. As we have had a very full season. Getting out of the boat and doing other things is what the next 3-4 weeks is all about.

When young Jock Calvert won the Tasmanian title in the single-handed Sabot dinghy class at Wynyard over the recent long weekend in March, he became the fourth generation of champion sailors in the Calvert dynasty from the Huon. And his younger brother, Angus, is not far behind.

The March Long Weekend saw Dinghy Group sailors perform well at the Tasmanian Championships with Matt Himson winning the full rig event from Elliott Noye. Rohan Langford returned to the class with flair winning comfortably from Zac Pullen in the Laser Radial fleet and Lewis Noye had a convincing win in the ever expanding Laser 4.7 fleet.

Sunday 13/12/9

Sunday started the arrivals of the Tassie sailors in drips and drabs. The majority of boats ex Sail Sydney had arrived on Weds courtesy of the bionic VW Golf and another group of boats arrived on the Spirit today including two lasers and Matt Bugg's 2.4.

On the final day, the expected light south-south-westerly winds did not eventuate on Sydney Harbour but instead a lovely nor-easter, mirroring yesterday's conditions, eventually filled in, allowing the PRO to officially get racing started just before 1.00pm, instead of the planned 10.00am.

Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS) head sailing coach Richard Scarr is justifiably proud of his charges competing at the four-day Sail Sydney regatta for Olympic and Youth classes, the four day Yachting NSW event being held on Sydney Harbour.

Following on from Scary's epic road trip, all the Tassie sailors have safely arrived in Sydney ready for Sail Sydney.  The Tasmanian's that have made the trip are part of a fleet of 222 entrants according to the official website http://www.sailsydney.org.au/

Dinghy Groups Zac Pullen is contesting all of the Sail Down Under series this season.  He started in Brisbane and is then heading to Sydney and then Melbourne prior to the Nationals in Adelaide at the end of the year.
