Start of 2011/12 Season - Important Information

Dear Sailors and Parents,

A new season is about to begin, the Dinghy Group committee and our coaches are looking forward to providing you with a great program of training and racing over the next six months.

Your first job is to register your intent to train and race, online at http://www.dinghygroup.org.au/registration

For those new to sail training, you will register as a ”beginner without a boat” or beginner “with a boat” and your training and racing is covered in the training program.

If you are an older beginner or moving out of Sabots to a 420, you may like to register as a beginner with boat and nominate “club 420” as your boat for the season. We can allocate boats for racing purposes once training has begun.

Those who have done this before, register!

Registration fees for the season are $150.00. Credit card payments can be made by phoning the RYCT office during business hours on 6223 4599 and quote “Dinghy Group Sailing 2011/12”. Cash and cheque payments can be made directly to the RYCT office or paid to the registration secretary on Saturday morning.

Registration morning, Saturday, 1st Octoberat the Dinghy Group sheds from 9am until 12pm. A capsize drill and recovery drill will be displayed in the duck pond, coaches will available to outline their plans for the season, boats will be available to practise rigging and sailors with existing boats are asked to check your boats over for safety gear and prepare them for the first week of training on the 8thOctober.

The 420 Association and the Laser Association representatives will be in attendance to answer questions of new or prospective parents.

A Handbook will be available at registration with details of Dinghy Group, the committee, the Sailing Instructions, a season Calendar and more.

The RYCT club house will then play the AFL Grand Final Live on the big screen for those who are keen on the game. Stay for lunch and settle in for the coverage.

Fundraising

Sunday 2nd October is the first major fundraising activity for Dinghy Group this season. A new garden has been prepared for the entrance to the RYCT and Dinghy Group has been invited to plant it out and reap the rewards. Not only will the kids enjoy watching their plantings grow as they learn to sail, but the Dinghy Group will receive a large cash donation that can be used to buy more assets for our sail training. The work will be supervised by the Landscaper so all you need are your gloves and spade (large or small), maybe a bucket to carry water and lots of enthusiasm. We have 300 plants to plant!

Work begins at 10am. Please let me know if you’re planning to attend. Ph 0408337025

Wanted

The Midway Point yacht club have several older sabots they would like to use for sail training but they are in need of a few sails! If you have an old sail spare, please donate it to the cause. Sails can be given to Darren Eggins or Philippa Calvert on any Saturday.
