Following our recent 'restructuring', and enforcing our committment to learning to sail, the RYCT Dinghy Group has decided to supplement the beginner program with a fleet of brand new boats.
Arriving in August, in time for our annual Sail School, 10 Ozi Opti's will be arriving thanks to the generous sponsorship of 10 local companies.
The Optimist is widely recognised and is sailed by over 150,000 youngsters in more than 110 countries around the world. It is also the only dinghy class approved by the International Sailing Federation exclusively for sailors under the age of 16. It should also be noted that at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 85% of the medal winning boat skippers were former Optimist sailors.
The training Optimists are made of a stronger material to the racing boats so that they are far more stable, a major plus for a first experience on the water, and they are very ‘forgiving’ when encountering knocks which are inevitable in early sails.
These boats will join our fleet of Sabots for the introduction to sailing / beginner training programs and we look forward to the additional colour and fun on the water.
